RSGS Highlights Verture’s Climate Work

We’re proud to share that Verture has been prominently featured in two new publications from the Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS), each exploring different dimensions of climate adaptation and resilience in Scotland.

Showcasing Our Work in the RSGS Magazine

The latest issue of The Geographer, RSGS’s flagship magazine, focuses on the urgent need for climate adaptation. Several members of the Verture team contributed articles under our former name, Sniffer. These contributions highlight a range of pioneering work, including:

  • Scotland’s first Flood Resilience Strategy, developed to address increasing flood risks with proactive, place-based solutions
  • Climate-ready placemaking that ensures adaptation is embedded in the design of towns and cities
  • Storytelling for climate awareness in the Highlands, showcasing the power of lived experience to inspire action
  • Business adaptation to climate risk, supporting resilience across Scotland’s economy

This edition is a rich resource for anyone interested in practical, people-centred climate adaptation.

Into the Red: The Cost of Climate Inaction

Alongside the magazine, RSGS has published Into the Red – a compelling new report that explores the economic and social consequences of failing to act on climate change. The report draws on a wide range of evidence and features several Verture-supported projects, including:

  • Climate Ready Clyde, a cross-sector initiative building regional resilience
  • Highland Adapts, a place-based partnership supporting adaptation in rural and remote communities

The report makes a powerful case for urgent action, underlining the disproportionate impact of climate change on vulnerable communities. Its core message – that inaction has a price, and that price is paid unequally – closely reflects our own commitment to climate justice.

Join the Launch Event

To mark the release of Into the Red, RSGS is hosting a launch event on Tuesday 13 May 2025. It’s an opportunity to hear more about the findings and join the conversation on what meaningful, equitable climate action looks like in Scotland today.
