Sniffer is becoming Verture

By Jo Kerr, our CEO, sharing some exciting news from us as we look ahead to 2025 with a new name, logo, and website.

I’m delighted to have joined Sniffer as CEO at the start of this month.

It’s an exciting time for our charity as we mark our 30 year anniversary – we will look to the future with a new name, logo, and website.

In early February 2025 Sniffer will become Verture.

Why are we changing?

Since Sniffer launched back in 1994 as the Scotland and Northern Ireland Forum for Environmental Research, our focus and objectives have changed, and our name has evolved away from its original acronym. We now collaborate with a diverse array of partners across the country to create a flourishing and fairer future for all in a changing climate. The name Sniffer no longer captures who we are or what we do.

Our new name and logo

Our charity helps everyone, in every place in Scotland, thrive as our climate changes. We believe that, together with our partners, we can grow a better future. Our new name and logo encapsulate this.

Verture is a Scots word meaning “the knot or joint in a straw nearest the ground, from which the lowest leaves spring”. This reflects the focus of our collaborative work seeking to create connections and new growth for a better tomorrow. It’s also a combination of “vert” evoking green forests, and “future” emphasising our impact and ambition.

Our new logo leans into this with the curve of the V showing a stylised new leaf emerging from its bud and the woodland colour emphasising hope for the future.

What it means for you

For now, whilst our registered name is already Verture, we remain known as Sniffer. The big change for you will come in early February when we move over to our new name, logo, and website, and share more about our new identity. We appreciate this might take a bit of getting used to after 30 years, so redirects will be in place for our emails and website.

And don’t worry, we’ll be in direct contact with those of you impacted by administrative updates.

Wishing you the very best for the festive season and a happy and healthy new year.
