Shaping Local Climate Action in Lanarkshire

Empowering communities to take climate action through local influence and creative engagement
At Verture, we know that real change happens when communities are supported to lead the way. Through our work with Climate Ready Clyde, we’ve been building strong relationships that are helping shape how climate funding is delivered at the local level—and Lanarkshire is a powerful example of that in action.
In 2024, the Lanarkshire Climate Action Hub launched a new round of their small grants programme. Thanks to ongoing conversations, shared learning, and our involvement in events and support sessions, two new funding categories were directly shaped by our input:
- Climate Ready Places (£2000) – focused on locally driven adaptation projects, with clear reference to the Adaptation Scotland programme and Scotland’s Routemap for Climate Adaptation.
- Climate Change in Your Community (£3000) – encouraging creative, participatory engagement, particularly with people who aren’t yet involved in climate conversations.

This is a tangible example of how our work with partners leads to systemic change. These new grant categories open doors for communities across Lanarkshire to take meaningful, place-based climate action – and they demonstrate a growing commitment to inclusive, creative, and locally rooted responses to the climate crisis.
We’ll continue to track how these grants are used and share learning from the projects as they emerge. For now, this change in funding strategy shows how influence can turn into impact, and how thoughtful collaboration can shape the way resources are directed to meet real community needs.
