Maximising UK Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) Hub
About the project
The MACC Hub is a UK wide programme focused on strengthening climate adaptation by improving how knowledge is generated, shared and applied. Led by Kings College London, it brings together researchers, policymakers and practitioners to understand what enables meaningful, place-based adaptation in the face of increasing climate risks.
Verture has been involved from the outset in shaping the programme concept and approach. As part of the Scotland Spoke, working alongside the University of Glasgow and wider UK partners, we help ensure that Scottish priorities, policy context and practical experience inform the Hub’s development and delivery, and apply lessons from across the UK to support stakeholders across Scotland.

What we are doing
Through the Scotland Spoke, we are contributing to research and engagement focused on:
• Understanding vulnerability and how power shapes adaptation outcomes
• Applying systems thinking to make sense of complexity and support change
• Exploring how wellbeing approaches can strengthen adaptation policy and practice

• Builds skills and partnerships through training and capacity building
• Generates and synthesises knowledge to inform adaptation action
• Connects research, policy and practice through collaborative spaces

Why it matters
Adaptation is not only about responding to climate impacts, it is about rethinking how systems operate so that risks are managed more fairly and effectively. This means addressing the root causes of vulnerability, improving access to climate information, and identifying policy or regulatory barriers that limit action. The MACC Hub creates space to test new approaches, strengthen collaboration across the UK, and showcase Scotland’s leadership in adaptation practice.
