About the project
Tayside is a diverse region of Scotland, bringing together thriving cities, rural communities, prime agricultural land, nationally important cultural assets, and outstanding natural and recreational environments. It is also home to a proud history of design and innovation, ports that support the local economy, and a growing movement of locally led climate action. The River Tay shapes the region’s communities, towns and landscapes, flowing from inland areas through the estuary and into the North Sea. However, Tayside’s geography also makes it vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and extreme weather, including flooding, storms, sea level rise and coastal erosion. The very assets that make the region so distinctive are increasingly at risk.
Verture has supported Climate Ready Tayside to co-develop the partnership’s vision and priorities, develop a business case and brand identity, engage organisations and communities in its development, secure funding, establish governance structures, and coordinate three thematic working groups. We are now working to identify the people and places most vulnerable to climate impacts and to develop a pipeline of strategic projects that will strengthen climate resilience across the region, its communities and key sectors.
As the partnership secretariat, Verture coordinates Climate Ready Tayside’s activities, provides strategic climate resilience advice, builds partner capacity, and draws on its experience of leading other Climate Ready Regions to accelerate progress. Verture has helped the partnership secure funding, establish working groups, identify strategic regional projects, and move more quickly towards delivering action on the ground.
